"AZUSA HORTICULTURAL PARADISE" - The Foothill Gold Line, APU/Citrus College Station, Azusa, California, USA

in collaboration with Lynn Goodpasture

Technique: Hand-painted and airbrushed vitreous enamels on safety glass.

DESCRIPTION: The hand-painted glass canopy located on the train platform recalls Azusa’s stately Palm Drive with its rare stand of California Fan Palms planted in 1899. These trees symbolize Azusa, and provide the people of Azusa with an important connection to their City’s past. The design is an array of stylized palm fronds that suggest a thatched palm roof. The cooling colors of the glass canopy produce a soft glow of reflected light and provide a refreshing shaded place to wait for the train in the California sun. At night the canopy gives off a soft lantern-like glow.

Peters Studios was patient, supportive and never lost interest during various delays of the project; they delivered on time and on budget. The complex design of the glass art was hand-painted with the greatest care and precision by the Peters Studios’ master painter. Their commitment to artists and the work is truly outstanding.
